Alternate Routes

I was just recently introduced to this site and it seems pretty good but one major factor not taken into account is alternate routes. For example on a recent trip I drove from Los Angeles, CA to Columbia City, IN. rather than taking the route that comes up(which would send us through Denver, CO and likely put us driving in extremely hazardous weather) we opted for a more relaxed route going through Albuquerque, NM then through Kansas City...The extra mileage was a reasonable trade-off as the price of gas along the way was lower and I have family in KC. I realize that consideration wouldn't be taken into account, nor would the fact that I was in an RV with my wife and 5 dogs but being able to specify multiple points for the driving calculation and possibly specifying multiple points for a flight (since for example there are no nonstop flights to fort wayne from los angeles) would be a nice addition.
